Without context, these images constitute a disjointed survey of an unremarkable landscape. On This Site, much like Sternfeld’s project of the same name, is an examination of the relationship between text and image. A camera has the ability to appraise a place and give validation of its significance. The photograph carries with it the intention of photographing, the weight of purpose, and the knowledge of history. These images are an exploration of the power of text and image to canonize the non-event, the minor occurrence, the history of little import.
