Hin Chua

Born in 1974 in Malaysia before migrating to Australia, Hin studied computer science and first picked up a camera a few years ago in an attempt to
get over a girl. It worked and things just seemed to progress from there.

Currently lives and works in London.

In the origin stories of many cultures, the first humans dwelt in an earthly paradise, at one with nature. After their subsequent expulsion, some believed that this transformed the very fabric of the natural world and the essence of our relationship with it. This series is a meditation on that altered yet fundamental bond.

My approach has been to pick a location on the map which might be considered to be 'the middle of nowhere', make my way there and then attempt to get lost, photographing what I find. While this has taken me all over the world, I have found these areas to be almost completely interchangeable:  regardless of culture and landscape, the dialogue between man and the natural world is ubiquitous, the balancing act ever-precarious.
